Can You Fix This...Please!

Aaack! I just talked to our insurance co on the phone because they have stopped covering Buggy's feeding supplies. I was informed that this plan does not cover disposable items of any kind. WHAT!?!?! Do you mean that I pay premiums for you to not help in my daughter's day-to-day living? You aren't going to cover something that is *essential* to her life? Her food bags aren't important because they are disposable? The lady on the phone tried to console me by saying that they didn't cover colostomy bags either...

Are you kidding me!?!?!?

They refuse to assign her a case manager, because they "don't do that for anyone" and then I get to clean up the messes of things not getting billed right, or being flagged because they "could have been caused" by an injury caused by someone else. (aka, someone else gets to pay for this)

On top of that, our car broke this weekend. I knew it was coming, but I didn't have the energy to deal with it just yet. It turns out that the radiator is done. It needed to be replaced. We hoped that would solve the problem of the heater blowing out cold air, but apparently not. We will have spent more than $1000 on the car by the end of this week...just when we were getting our food storage bulked up.

I'll probably erase this post because it's not very nice or happy or well though out or helpful or even productive. I just needed to gripe and the people I would normally call are gone.

Things would be much easier for me if I were an extrovert. :-P

Sorry to hear about the insurance. Still living the poor student life we have to deal with Medicaid, but they are usually good about things. I just wish they covered adult dental. :(
As for the car thing...UG! I can totally relate! Our car just broke down about 3 weeks ago, and it cost us a little over 1700.00 to fix it. It was a little bit of everything that had to be fixed.
Things have a way of working out though. :) Thank heavens for that. ;) Good luck and hang in there! :)

What a pain, Karin. In this economy, getting ahead is nearly impossible. I'm not sure it helps to know that everyone is in the same boat, but maybe a little.

If Buggy's disposable bags are the ONLY way they are offered then there has to be some recourse. Keep at it, grouching at them along the way. You'll learn a few extrovert qualities :).

I'm with STM all the way, KEEP AT IT!! There has to be a way for them to pay for things that are neccessary for her to function day to day....that is just plain crazy!! And not the colostomy bags either eh? Double Crazy! Keep fighting and I'll keep you & Buggy in my prayers!!

I am so glad I'm not the only one who hates calling insurance. I put off calling until it is almost too late. Don't you feel like someone somewhere is sitting on a giant pile of money?

So sorry you are going through this right now! Just keep being the squeaky wheel, like everyone else has said!!

Found this site and thought of you. This is a foundation that offers grants to families with special needs children. I think the medical supplies are free but I am not sure if these are the same food bags that you need. It's worth a shot.

Thanks so much for your thoughts, all of you. I feel much better now and ready to deal with a little bit more.

You all had some great ideas. and I feel I should clarify...

we have double insurance on Buggy. She has our insurance as well as disability medicaid. If United doesn't cover something, medicaid will usually cover it after much gnashing of teeth and fighting betwixt each other. It means I often have old balances, but the companies I work with have been very kind about it thus far. They know how it works in insurance land (which does not operate in reality, I must say).

STM, I know everyone is dealing with similar things and it just makes me hurt. It's that part of me that thinks maybe socialized health care couldn't be that bad. When we only had medicaid, almost everything got covered in a timely fashion.

Caitlin, I'm with you...I hate making those phone calls. It's times like this that I just wish someone *else* could be the squeaky wheel. I feel like I am often assertive enough (a wonderful quality I have picked up from my mom), I just get tired of it all, ya know?

I do also feel there is someone (or a few someones) who is sitting on a big pile of money...at the expense of poor people with no bowels or feeding tubes. ;-P I'm not completely a conspiracy theorist, but someone has got to be making bunches of money, somewhere or they wouldn't be doing this.

Thank you all for your constant support. It means a lot to me. To know that I have friends spread all over the country (and right around the corner;) )that are still thinking about me and my family. I feel much more able to keep doing what needs to be done.

it's interesting how everyone stops being a libertarian, even in Utah, when they have real life happens...

Sylwia, You're right that many people like government programs only when it is beneficial for them. I'm not sure that I've ever claimed to be a libertarian, though. :-)

Holy Moly! Insurance companies are AWFUL!!! I actually have a friend in a similar situation where her little 2 year with a feeding tube isn't being covered as much either. It's hard stuff!
Sorry about your car, having that break down is the pitts!
I didn't know you had a blog it's fun to read through it! Thanks for the kind comment you left me on my blog!
I get sucked into them and wished I lived closer to everyone! Hang in there!

So did you ever get the insurance stuff figured out? What a pain. Like you don't already have enough to deal with... And yeah, someone always makes bunches of money, I've decided. The healthcare system in this country is so messed up. It seems like all you do is pay premiums, but when it comes to actually having needs covered, nobody's willing to pay. We had United a few years ago, and I didn't care about them much. Anyway, sorry about the mess.
